Senior Online Safety - Burgess - China TVOn February 13, 2015, US President Barack Obama signed “Executive Order — Promoting Private Sector Cybersecurity Information Sharing,” at the conclusion of his speech at Stanford University which hosted the White House Summit on Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection. The Executive Order speaks to the need for private companies, nonprofit organizations, executive departments and agencies, and others to be able to share information related to cybersecurity risks and incidents to collaborate in as close to real time as possible.

Christopher Burgess, the voice of Senior Online Safety, was invited to appear on CCTV-America (China TV – America) to speak to the topic of President Obama’s summit, and the broader topic of cyber security, encryption and whether hacking will ever end.

Salient takeaways – Security implementation of Prevendra’s product Red Folder places it in the vanguard. The use of consumer controlled encryption, multi-factor authentication, and user interaction which requires multi-step process of checks and verifications are all areas which the President and those at the summit called out for companies to address.

Data breaches do occur – one recently in the healthcare sector resulted in 80 million records being compromised and an entire state’s internal revenue’s database was stolen resulting in every taxpayer’s information being stolen – but – they don’t have to be the norm.
