This heartbreaking holiday ad is a powerful reminder of old people’s loneliness – The Washington Post — went on to describe Edeka ad as going “straight for the emotional gut punch with a new ad this week, a heartbreaking portrayal of an old man abandoned by his too busy family at Christmas.

Some find viral EDEKA ad emotionally manipulative – USA Today — asked if the “German supermarket chain taken the concept a bit too far? While plenty applauded the latest ad by EDEKA for its emotional note, some on Twitter and other social media channels are seeing it with a more sober, critical eye.”

German supermarket Edeka release heartbreaking Christmas advert to rival John Lewis’ ‘Man On The Moon’ – The Independent said, “a Christmas advert released by German supermarket Edeka is melting hearts worldwide. Similar to John Lewis’ emotive “Man On The Moon” advert; it focuses on an elderly man alone at Christmas. But, some viewers believe it has trumped the British advert as the most powerful yet. If you thought the John Lewis ad was a tear jerker, get a load of this. I’m an emotional wreck.
