VTech Data Breach

This past weekend we learned of the data breach at toymaker VTech. Preliminary information indicates name, addresses, email addresses of parents and the names and age of associated children were compromised. Information available 1 December 2015, indicates the breach is more extensive than originally thought.  The hackers were able to acquire voice recordings of conversations or audio clips uploaded by the children or their parents, as well as photos of the children.  According to the website Motherboard, the hackers have chat logs and head shots of the children.

If you registered yourself, your child or your grandchild on the Vtech website you may be affected by this breach ~5,000,000 individuals are affected..

According to security professional Troy Hunt – the following information was compromised.  If you registered your information on VTech you should recognize the screen and fields.

At least two U.S. states plan to investigate a breach at Hong Kong-based toymaker VTech Holdings Ltd, which surfaced late last week and exposed data of millions of customers who use a portal for downloading content including children’s games.
